Canine CRP – a objective and reliable inflammation marker
Gentian will promote its Canine CRP Immunoassay during the 2020 AACC Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo. Visit our booth and book a meeting to discuss how this objective first-line test and valuable monitoring biomarker can be included in your clinical chemistry menu.
CRP (C-reactive protein) has a long record as biomarker for systemic inflammation in dogs1-3. Measurement of CRP in dogs is used in both diagnosis and monitoring of several different conditions, including bacterial infection, surgical trauma, gastrointestinal disease, autoimmune disease and cancer2,4-7. CRP has been shown to be more sensitive than classical inflammation biomarkers like white blood cell count (WBC) and band neutrophil counts8.
CRP measurement enables the veterinarian to reliably rule-out or confirm the presence of systemic inflammation in the patient, and subsequently monitor treatment response and disease progression in real-time.
- Sensitive marker for systemic inflammation1,2
- CRP levels rise up to 100 times - starting after just 4-6 h and peak at 24-48 h2,3
- Short half-life of canine CRP - levels drop quickly after elimination of inflammation2,3
